We Can and Will Do Better
We have been keeping a big, well some might say little, secret… we’re launching a kids line! We know how much you all have loved our Chicago apparel and now the whole family can rep the Windy City.
As we release this campaign we wanted to continue to use our platform to advocate for the need for change in regards to racial justice. These pint size tees may be cute but they also can serve as a reminder that in the United States there remains extensive racial disparities in pregnancy-related deaths. Black moms across the country are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. This is why we have chose to support Chicago Birthworks Collective.
Chicago Birthworks Collective is Chicago’s full service Doula collective whose mission is to decrease birth mortality rates for black women and families. Founded in 2018 by Toni and Tayo, a mother daughter doula duo, Chicago Birthworks Collective is the first collective of birthworkers, healers and wellness practitioners whose aim is focused on serving black families in Chicago.
The ways in which CBC supports the community are extensive. One pillar of their mission is focused on education. For new parents the internet can be a scary place and not always the best resource. CBC approaches education through culturally informed evidence to bring new parents a little peace of mind as they navigate, what can be, a stressful situation.
Chicago Birthworks Collective offers traditional prenatal, birth and postpartum Doula Support and also offers Mom+Baby services. Both of these services puts the focus on the families to provide much needed support at any stage of pregnancy.
In addition to direct support, CBC puts together “love packages” for mamas in need. These love packages are stocked with essentials for both mom and baby which are now more important than ever in this time of crisis due to COVID-19. The love packages have made tremendous impacts in the lives of Black Chicago families in need. Recently, during a 14 day period, over 500 love packages were created and distributed to Black mamas and families across the city.
This weekend, 15% of sales will be donated to Chicago Birthworks Collective, providing much needed relief to expecting and new Black moms and babies in the Chicago community.
