Top 5 Trends From NYFW Fall 2020
Who doesn’t love the classic movie Clueless? Cher’s yellow plaid set has been a go to Halloween costume, but for the other 364 days a year plaid does not receive much love. However, 2020 NYFW brought plaid out of the 70s and into the modern spotlight, whether it was in grudge or pretty pinks, plaid was back on the runway.
Speaking of 90s plaid icons, New York Fashion Week brought back yet another trend from the past: grunge. Designers played with the grunge aesthetic with full fits and accessories, edgy black sets, distressed dresses and chunky boots. The word grunge was refreshed and given a whole new meaning on the runway in 2020.
Belts have always been a fundamental and functional part of fashion. This year, designers took this staple clothing item and amplified it on the runway. Carolina Herrera, Brandon Maxwell, and Longchamp are few among many that showcased extra wide, and even two belts, on the hips of top models this year.
Coco Chanel once said “A girl needs ropes and ropes of pearls” and it seems as if NYFW 2020 took that saying and ran with it. Pearls were featured in so many collections this year, from Marc Jacobs to Jason Wu. The queen of gems was spotlighted as hoop earrings, chokers and even sprinkled through the hair of top looks in the 2020 NYFW. It is clear a classic pearl look will never go out of style.
Bella Hadid ruled the NYFW 2020 runway, showcasing some of the top trends sure to make major fashion statements this year. In Brandon Maxwell’s show she wore a black dress that exaggerated her hips in all the best ways. Brandon Maxwell was among designers such as LaQuan Smith, Christian Siriano and Christopher John Rogers that took hips to a whole new level. To pull of this trend requires more than the clothes… the best accessory to an exaggerated hip fit is confidence!
